Maryam is an economist with a passionate commitment to global economic, environmental, and intersectional justice. She has spent 8 years working on various forms of inequality and economic and social justice in global philanthropy, collaborating with donors, international NGOs, community organisations, academics, policy officials, and institutional stakeholders. She has over 20 years' experience in research, policy advocacy, strategic litigation, capacity building, and feminist & anti-racist grassroots organising and campaigning. Maryam obtained a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She has retrained as a heterodox economist and continues to seek out historically-anchored, evidence-based and decolonial perspectives and pathways to drive transformative systemic change and sustainable prosperity.
